We relaxed and enjoyed the view at Porte des Morts park at the north end of Door County. The cliff comprises a part of the Niagara Escarpment. The escarpment stretches over 430 miles from Wisconsin, through Ontario, and into New York. Unequal erosion of rocks with varying hardness shaped this geological formation over millions of years, giving it its distinctive features of steep cliffs, rugged terrain, and unique rock formations. One of its most renowned features is the Niagara Falls, where the river plunges over the escarpment, creating a spectacular natural wonder.
The Niagara Escarpment is a prominent geological feature in Door County. In Wisconsin, it supports a diverse range of flora and fauna, including several rare and endangered species. The vegetation and ecosystems along the escarpment contribute significantly to the area’s biodiversity.
