Cana Island Lighthouse

Cana Island Light house was built in 1869, You can walk or ride a haywagon to the the island and visit the home of the lighthouse keeper and his family. This time the tower was open and we, gandparents, parents and grandchildren (including the 4-year old), climbed the 97 steps of the spiral staircase to the gallery deck.

Here us a photo of the working Fresnel lens, which gather light from a series of prisms to create an continuous beam of light. If my memory is correct, it weighs around 2000 lbs.
